Let’s dive in!

BLONDE-WITH-CURTAIN-BANGS

Since I have fine hair, I find curtain bangs to be the best way to style the front of my hair. If the front gets too long without any face-framing, my ends become thin, limp, and lifeless. So this style is perfect for maintaining volume and movement around my face without weighing me down.

What are curtain bangs?

Curtain bangs are a style of bangs where the hair frames the face. They are characterized by shorter hair in the center that gets longer as it works its way out and down the face.

They work best with hair that is parted either down the middle or slightly off-center. Since a deep side part wouldn’t allow the hair to lie evenly, you’d end up with one side framed and the other not.

One of the best aspects of curtain bangs is that they can be cut short to up above the eyebrows, or longer starting at the mouth area. The fact that they frame the face and blend in with the rest of the hair allows this style of bang to be extremely versatile.

Typically, I suggest having the shortest piece of hair start around your favorite facial feature. This will draw attention to this area on your face.

What face shape looks best with curtain bangs?

Since these bangs are typically styled in a flowing outward direction, they create some width on your face. They work very well for those with a narrow or oblong face. These face shapes need to create width on the sides for more symmetry.

But if you have a round, square, or diamond face shape, they may create a little too much width. These face shapes will achieve more symmetry with hairstyles that will create length and height as opposed to width.

And since oval face shapes are pretty balanced already, they can also wear curtain bangs without making the face appear too wide.

How to style curtain bangs

Now, something to keep in mind is that bangs of any sort (particularly curtain bangs), do need to be styled. They won’t always lay in that soft and flowing direction if you don’t do anything to them, unfortunately.

This doesn’t mean that they will look terrible if you don’t style them, but you do need to have the proper expectations here.

When styling curtain bangs, you always want to direct the hair away from the face. This is what creates that soft and flowing movement.

You can do this with a blow dryer and round brush, a curling iron, rollers, or a combination of all three.

The easiest way to cut curtain bangs

While there are numerous methods for cutting this style of bangs, I find it best to go with the simplest route. Watch my tutorial below to learn my favorite method for cutting curtain bangs easily from home.
